Who are we?

Dr. R. Scott Thornton MD FACOG:  Dr. Thornton is a Board Certified OB-GYN who gave up deliveries in 1992 in order to focus on GYN alone. He has extensive experience in treating menopausal patients and develops his recommendations from The North American Menopause Society, The American College of OB-GYN, The American Cancer Society, The World Health Organization, The National Osteoporosis Foundation, The American Heart Association, and The National Institute for Health. He is the current Chairman of the Cancer Committee at Holy Redeemer Hospital and Medical Center. His other endeavors include serving as the  Director of The Sacred Grounds Resource Center at Gloria Dei Church and serving as the Director of Values Through Sports, a program that works with at-risk youth in the West Kensington section of Philadelphia. He has written and published 2 books, Everything You Wanted to Ask Your Gynecologist and Inclusive Christianity: A Progressive Look at Faith.

Dr. Kathleen Schramm MD, Certified Integrative Therapist: Dr. Schramm is Double-Board Certified in Adult, as well as Child and Adolescent, Psychiatry. She is the co-creator and senior partner of Southampton Psychiatric Associates in Southampton Pa.  She also served as the Director of Residency Training for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at The Medical College of Pennsylvania/Hahnemann.  More recently, Dr. Schramm trained in an Integrative Therapy program designed to incorporate complementary disciplines with traditional medicine. The disciplines include, exercise, nutrition, meditation, aromatherapy, Reiki, and yoga. Unlike many alternative programs designed to replace traditional medicine, Integrative Therapy is designed to complement traditional approaches.  Dr. Schramm is able to approach menopausal women from a holistic perspective and when necessary, coordinate complementary treatments with more traditional approaches to menopause. In addition, her background in psychiatry enables her with the ability to discern the difference between the typical mood swings of menopause, and more serious mood disturbances (ex. major depression, anxiety disorder) that might require traditional medication.  She also maintains an interest in nutrition therapy, studying in the " Food as Medicine" program with Dr. Jim Gordon at the Center for Mind/Body Medicine.


Joan McDevitt, RPh, 500-RYT, Certified Integrative Therapist: Joan is a licensed pharmacist and experienced Yoga teacher with advanced education in holistic, integrative therapy. She is a registered Yoga therapist and certified Reiki practitioner and Aromatherapist. As a breast cancer survivor, Joan knows how essential and beneficial the inclusion of Eastern healing therapies are in the prevention, treatment and recovery of serious health conditions. She is an advocate for integrating holistic healing therapies into the support and care of others. Joan is a recent graduate of an Integrative Therapist Program where Eastern healing techniques are used in combination with Western medicine in a holistic approach to patient care. She teaches privately and at Comprehensive Breast Care Surgeons. Joan has studied with many master teachers, including; RodneyYee, Colleen Saidman, John Friend, Naime Jezzeny and Roshi Joan Halifax. She is currently furthering her studies in nutrition therapy in the Food as Medicine Program with Dr. Jim Gordon at the Center for Mind/Body Medicine. 

Linda Houck: Linda has over 20 years of experience in the fitness and movement fields. She has extensive experience teaching groups in fitness, lo-impact aerobics, strength training, Pilates, and meditation/relaxation. She created a personal training business, Fitness Dynamics, in 1991. Linda trained at the PhysicalMind Institute, becoming a Certified Pilates Instructor in 2004. She is the Creator and Director of Pilates by Linda located in Huntingdon Valley. She is also one of only 500 certified practitioners in the Pilates Pink Ribbon Program, dedicated to providing a Pilates-based rehabilitation protocol for breast cancer survivors.
